On the trail of intelligent nature wisdom
Biodiversity pilots produce new ways of working with nature.
Biodiversity pilots produce new ways of working with nature.
Biodiversity work is not about duplicating reviews or measures. Work is always targeted at a specific environment and activity. Nature work requires strong environmental expertise and an innovative approach to finding new ways to carry out effective nature work.
Sitowise has taken significant steps to promote biodiversity work by integrating smart digital methods into its projects.
Metsähallitus' Lyypäkki wind power project is one example of Sitowise's biodiversity pilots, in which the impacts of wind power construction are mitigated through concrete measures, such as spreading rarer species and creating new habitats.
- We will compile measures to mitigate the impacts of wind power construction into concrete action proposals and measures to increase biodiversity, says Heli Nukki, Service Manager for Biodiversity at Sitowise.
Digital solutions, such as the Smartlas service, enable the placement of solar and wind turbines while minimizing environmental hazards and produce objective data for project planning and permit processes.
Smart digital services, such as maps and reports based on artificial intelligence and satellite monitoring, provide up-to-date information on project areas and their future development scenarios. This enables environmentally smart implementation of projects throughout their life cycle.
- We have already used digital-based data in two dozen of our renewable energy projects, and method development continues at a rapid pace with our customers. There is a genuine need for our service, says Sanna Härkönen, Product Manager at Sitowise Smartlas.
Digital methods ensure that biodiversity work continues even after the construction phase, which supports the achievement of Finland's national biodiversity goals and climate and sustainability work. Sitowise's goal is to utilise smart solutions to achieve continuous nature positivity in Finland.
