Port of Pori Ltd has ports in Mäntyluoto and Tahkoluoto, Pori. The ports are related to merchant shipping, which are among the ten largest ports in Finland due to their combined cargo volume. The ports are located in an area close to which residential and holiday buildings are also located. For this reason, the environmental permits concerning ports define the maximum permissible noise values caused by the Port's operations in the surrounding residential areas and the obligation to investigate the environmental noise caused by measurements and modelling at regular intervals.
Sitowise has prepared environmental noise reports concerning its operations for the Port of Tahkoluoto in autumn 2021 and for the Port of Mäntyluoto in early 2024. In connection with the study, Sitowise drew up an environmental noise measurement plan for approval by the permit authority, after which the environmental noise measurements were carried out in accordance with the measurement plan.
In addition to environmental noise measurements, Sitowise determined by measuring the noise emissions of cranes, rail transports and ships related to the Port's operations on a device-by-equipment basis. With the noise modelling based on the results of the noise emission measurements, it was possible to simulate different utilisation rates for the port compared to environmental noise measurements, the results of which only describe the operational situation during the measurements. In addition, it was possible to compare the results of the modelling with the environmental noise measurements carried out. The results of environmental noise measurements and noise modelling were found to be in line with each other.
Based on the results of environmental noise measurements and noise modelling, noise survey reports were prepared for each port. The reports showed that the ports operate in accordance with the permit regulations set out in the environmental permit.
