The Finnish Forest Centre is an indirect central government organisation operating under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The task of the Forest Centre is to promote sustainable forestry and livelihoods in the sector and to advise forest owners on the management and utilisation of forests and forest nature. The Finnish Forest Centre also collects and distributes information on Finland's private forests and monitors compliance with forest legislation.
Sitowise produces nationwide satellite monitoring of forest felling for the Finnish Forest Centre. The service produces maps of actual felling and thinning. The Finnish Forest Centre, which monitors the implementation of the Forest Act, compares the felling detected by the service with forest use notifications submitted by forest owners and timber buyers. Sitowise is also involved in the Forest Centre's innovation project, which develops the monitoring of insect damage in forests.
Sitowise is involved in maintaining the forest and nature information system of the Finnish Forest Centre. Sitowise is also responsible for the renewal of Metsään.fi service. In the Metsään.fi service, forest and nature information is published for the use of forest owners and operators in the forest sector, and the service also deals with the official functions of the Forest Centre. Metsään.fi is Finland's most popular service among forest owners.
