Verkkotietopiste.fi

Verkkotietopiste has been developed as an operational tool for increasing joint construction and cooperation between authorities, network operators and municipalities. The Verkkotietopiste.fi service was introduced in spring 2017. The service brings together the network areas and construction plans of different network operators in one place and promotes the joint construction of underground network infrastructure. Through the service, network operators can make contact requests to other network operators.

The service contains information on communications, electricity, district heating, district cooling, gas, water supply and transport networks.

The Verkkotietopiste service is based on the Act on the Joint Construction and Use of Network Infrastructure (276/2016), which entered into force on 1.7.2016. The purpose of the Act is to speed up broadband construction, particularly by promoting the joint construction of electricity and telecommunications networks, but also other network infrastructure, and the joint use of infrastructure. The Act is based on an EU directive that aims to reduce the costs of building broadband networks.
